Title of Artwork: Eyes of our elders
Location: Paralowie Village Shopping Centre
Artist: Mike Makatron
Form: Mural
Commissioned by: City of Salisbury - Create a Place Public Art Project and Paralowie Village Shopping Centre
Year of Completion: 2022
Rationale: This mural has a dual theme of multiculturalism and sustainability.
The eyes represent the wisdom of our elders and traditional owners, looking out from the sky onto nature and the reserve. The pixelated colour plays throughout the sky and symbolises the wide range of cultures present in the City of Salisbury.
The flowers are the Eucalyptus flowering gumnuts, as well as the Sturt's Desert Pea as a nod to the native flora of South Australia.
